Committed in the delay
CHURCH CHALLENGE
This week, do not ask only:
“Did God answer me yet?”
Ask:
“Am I still committed while I wait?”
Because delay does not mean denial.
The tomb is not greater than Jesus.
And the last word still belongs to resurrection.

DAY 1
DAY 1 — Delay Is Not Denial
Scripture
John 11:4
“This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God.”
Teaching
Mary and Martha sent Jesus a request, but Jesus did not come immediately.
That is difficult for every believer.
We know God can move, so when He does not move the way we expect, our faith gets tested.
But delay is not always denial. Sometimes delay is the place where God prepares a deeper revelation.
Mary and Martha wanted Jesus to heal Lazarus.
Jesus wanted to reveal Himself as resurrection.
Sometimes God’s answer is bigger than your request.
Reflection
Where have I mistaken God’s delay for God’s absence?
Prayer
Father, help me trust You when I do not understand Your timing. Strengthen my heart in the waiting. Teach me to believe that Your delay has purpose and Your glory is still being revealed. In Jesus’ name, amen.

He spoke to her faith.
In delay, faith needs to hear truth again.
That is why the Word matters. That is why church matters. That is why preaching matters.
If you do not hear who God is, what you buried may become greater in your mind than who you serve.
Jesus reminded Martha that He was still resurrection.
Before Lazarus came out of the grave, Martha’s faith had to stand back up.

Has my situation become bigger in my mind than Jesus?
Prayer
Lord, speak to my faith again. Remind me who You are. Let Your Word become louder than my fear, my grief, and my disappointment. Build my faith in the delay. In Jesus’ name, amen.

“Jesus wept.”

Mary came to Jesus weeping.
She said the same thing Martha said, but from a different place.
Martha needed a faith conversation.
Mary needed compassion.
Jesus did not condemn her tears. He wept with her.
Pentecostal faith is not emotionless faith.
We believe in power, but we also believe in the compassion of Christ.
You can cry and still have faith.
You can grieve and still trust God.
You can ask questions and still be committed.
Jesus is not afraid of your emotions.
Reflection
Have I been ashamed of my emotions in a hard season?
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for being compassionate. Thank You for not rejecting me when I cry. Meet me in my emotions and help me bring my pain to You instead of running from You. Hold me while You heal me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Take five minutes today to honestly tell God how you feel.

Real commitment is not proven when everything lives.
It is proven when you have to bury something and still trust God.
Some believers lose their faith because Lazarus died.
But Martha teaches us that what we bury cannot become greater than who we serve.
Faith does not deny grief.
Faith declares that God is still God in the middle of grief.

What loss has tried to shake my commitment?

Father, help me not bury my faith with what I lost. Strengthen me to trust You even when I do not get the answer I wanted. Keep my heart committed to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Sometimes we want God to remove the struggle, but God wants to reveal Himself through it.
The delay becomes a stage for glory.
The tomb becomes a testimony.
The weeping becomes a witness.
God is still able to get glory out of your story.

“Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

The delay is one of the hardest places to stay committed.
It is easy to worship when the answer comes quickly.
It is harder to worship when Lazarus is in the tomb.
But committed disciples do not follow Jesus only when He moves on their timeline.
They follow because He is Lord.
Whether Lazarus lives or dies, Jesus is still worthy.
Whether the answer comes now or later, Jesus is still faithful.
Whether I understand or not, I am still committed.
