COMMITTED WEEK 1
COMMITTED: Moving From Comfort To The Cross
Weekly Charge
This week, don't just read the devotional.
- Pray through it.
- Journal through it.
- Discuss it with someone.
- Share what God shows you.
This week, don't just ask:
"Did I go to church?"
Ask: "Am I following Jesus?"
Because Jesus never called us to simply attend.
He called us to surrender.
He called us to carry a cross.
He called us to become disciples.
Be committed. Stay faithful. Follow Jesus. ???
Series Scripture
Matthew 16:24
"If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me."
DAY 1
Commitment Is More Than Emotion
Main Scripture
Matthew 16:24
"If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me."
Supporting Scriptures
Many people mistake passion for commitment.
Passion can make us excited during worship. Passion can fill an altar. Passion can bring tears to our eyes and gratitude to our hearts. Those moments are wonderful gifts from God.
But commitment is what remains after the emotion fades.
Throughout Scripture, we see people who experienced powerful moments with God. Israel celebrated after crossing the Red Sea, yet struggled when they entered the wilderness. The crowds praised Jesus on Palm Sunday, but many turned away when following Him became difficult.
Jesus never called people to simply admire Him. He called them to follow Him.
When Jesus said, "Take up your cross," He wasn't talking about comfort. He was talking about surrender. In the first century, the cross was a symbol of death. Jesus was teaching His followers that a disciple must be willing to lay down personal desires, personal agendas, and personal comfort in order to follow God's will.
This is why the Holy Spirit is so important in the life of a believer. The Spirit doesn't just help us feel God's presence—He helps us live God's Word. He gives us strength when obedience is difficult and faith when circumstances are uncertain.
Real commitment is not proven during powerful church services. It is proven on ordinary days when nobody is watching.
A committed believer says:
"Even when I don't understand what God is doing, I will still trust Him."
Reflection
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for loving me and calling me to follow You. Help me move beyond emotions and grow into true discipleship. Teach me to trust You when life is difficult and obey You even when it costs me something.
Holy Spirit, strengthen my faith, renew my commitment, and help me surrender every area of my life to Jesus. Create in me a heart that desires Your will above my own.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Activation
Spend 10 minutes alone with God today.
Ask:
"Lord, what area of my life do You want me to trust You with more?"
Write down what He reveals and pray over it.
Declaration
I am a disciple of Jesus Christ.
My faith is built on God's truth, not my feelings.
The Holy Spirit is helping me grow stronger every day.
I will trust God, obey His Word, and follow Him wherever He leads.

Reflection
- Is my relationship with Jesus built more on feelings or faith?
- What area of my life is God asking me to surrender?
- Am I following Jesus only when it's convenient?
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for loving me and calling me to follow You. Help me move beyond emotions and grow into true discipleship. Teach me to trust You when life is difficult and obey You even when it costs me something.

DAY 2
Commitment Leads Direction
Main Scripture
Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart... and He shall direct your paths."
Supporting Scriptures
Teaching
Many believers want God to reveal the entire plan before they commit to obedience.
But throughout Scripture, God often asks for commitment before He reveals direction.
Abraham was told to leave his homeland before he knew where he was going. Peter stepped out of the boat before he knew what walking on water felt like. The disciples left their nets before they knew where following Jesus would take them.
Faith does not require complete understanding.
Faith requires trust.
One of the primary ministries of the Holy Spirit is guidance. Jesus called Him our Helper. The Spirit leads believers step by step, day by day, often revealing just enough light for the next step rather than the entire journey.
Commitment creates clarity.
When we surrender our will to God, distractions begin to fade. Priorities become clearer. His voice becomes easier to recognize.
God is not looking for perfect people.
He is looking for surrendered people.
Reflection
Prayer
Father,
Teach me to trust You completely. Forgive me for the times I have demanded answers before obedience. Help me walk by faith and not by sight.
Holy Spirit, guide my steps and direct my path. Give me confidence to follow You even when I cannot see the entire picture. Help me trust that You are leading me exactly where I need to be.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Activation
Take one step of obedience this week that you have been putting off.
Declaration
God is directing my path.
I do not need the whole plan to trust Him.
The Holy Spirit is leading me, and I will follow.
Main Scripture
Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart... and He shall direct your paths."
Supporting Scriptures
- Psalm 37:23
- Isaiah 30:21
- Romans 8:14

Reflection
- Have I been asking God for direction while resisting commitment?
- What step of obedience have I been delaying?
- Do I trust God's timing as much as His promises?
Prayer

Teach me to trust You completely. Forgive me for the times I have demanded answers before obedience. Help me walk by faith and not by sight.

DAY 3
Commitment Has No Time Frame
Main Scripture
Galatians 6:9
"Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."
Supporting Scriptures
Teaching
One of the greatest tests of commitment is waiting.
Noah built the ark for years before rain fell.
Abraham waited decades for Isaac.
Joseph endured slavery and prison before reaching the palace.
David was anointed king long before he wore the crown.
In every case, God's promise was true even when fulfillment seemed delayed.
Many believers mistake delay for denial.
But God's delays are often seasons of preparation.
The Holy Spirit does more than empower us for ministry. He also produces endurance within us. While we wait, He develops character, faithfulness, patience, and spiritual maturity.
God is never in a hurry, but He is never late.
The same God who made the promise is faithful to complete it.
Commitment says:
"I will remain faithful even when I cannot see what God is doing."
Reflection
Prayer
Father,
Thank You that You are faithful to every promise You make. Help me remain steady during seasons of waiting. When I become discouraged, remind me that You are still working behind the scenes.
Holy Spirit, strengthen my heart and renew my hope. Teach me patience and help me trust Your timing. I choose to remain faithful because I know You are faithful.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Activation
Encourage someone who is currently walking through a waiting season.
Declaration
God is working even when I cannot see it.
I will not grow weary.
I will remain faithful until God's promise comes to pass.
Main Scripture
Galatians 6:9

- Where have I become discouraged while waiting?
- Have I confused God's delay with God's absence?
- What promise do I need to trust Him with again?
Prayer
Father,
Thank You that You are faithful to every promise You make. Help me remain steady during seasons of waiting. When I become discouraged, remind me that You are still working behind the scenes.

DAY 4
Commitment Does Not Sway
Main Scripture
Job 13:15
"Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him."
Supporting Scriptures
Teaching
Anyone can stay committed when life is easy.
The real test comes when adversity arrives.
What happens when prayers seem unanswered?
What happens when doors close?
What happens when disappointment, sickness, loss, or hardship enters our lives?
Commitment rooted in emotion will eventually fail.
Commitment rooted in conviction will remain.
Believers have always understood that faith is not the absence of struggle. Faith is trusting God in the middle of the struggle.
The Holy Spirit strengthens believers during difficult seasons. He comforts us, empowers us, and reminds us that God has not abandoned us.
Storms reveal foundations.
When our faith is anchored in Christ, adversity may shake us, but it cannot destroy us.
Reflection
Prayer
Father,
When life becomes difficult, help me remain steadfast. Strengthen me when I am weak and remind me that You are with me in every season.
Holy Spirit, anchor my heart in truth. Help me trust You when answers are delayed and when circumstances seem uncertain. Let my commitment remain firm regardless of what I face.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Activation
Speak this aloud today:
"I will not quit because life got hard."
Declaration
I am anchored in Christ.
My commitment is stronger than my circumstances.
The Holy Spirit is helping me stand firm.

Job 13:15
"Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him."
Supporting Scriptures
- James 1:2-4
- Romans 5:3-5
- Psalm 46:1

DAY 5
Commitment Is Not Controlled By Opinions
Main Scripture
Galatians 1:10
"If I still pleased men, I would not be a servant of Christ."
Supporting Scriptures
Teaching
One of the greatest enemies of commitment is the fear of people's opinions.
Jesus was criticized.
Noah was mocked.
David was misunderstood.
The apostles were rejected.
Yet they continued obeying God.
Why?
Because conviction was stronger than public opinion.
The Holy Spirit gives believers boldness. Throughout the Book of Acts, ordinary men and women stood courageously because they were empowered by God's Spirit.
When we seek approval from people more than approval from God, our commitment becomes unstable.
But when we know who we are in Christ, criticism loses its power.
Not everyone will understand your obedience.
Not everyone will celebrate your calling.
But God honors those who remain faithful.
Reflection
Prayer
Father,
Free me from the fear of people. Help me care more about Your approval than anyone else's opinion.
Holy Spirit, fill me with boldness. Give me courage to obey You even when others do not understand. Let my life bring glory to You alone.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Activation
Do one thing this week that God has been prompting you to do, even if others may not understand it.
Declaration
I live for God's approval.
I will not be controlled by fear.
The Holy Spirit gives me courage to obey.
Main Scripture
Galatians 1:10
"If I still pleased men, I would not be a servant of Christ."

Reflection
- Have I allowed fear of people to affect my obedience?
- What would I do differently if I was only concerned with pleasing God?
- Where do I need greater boldness?
Prayer
Father,
Free me from the fear of people. Help me care more about Your approval than anyone else's opinion.

DAY 6
Commitment Carries The Cross
Main Scripture
Matthew 16:24
"If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me."
Supporting Scriptures
Teaching
Jesus never called people to comfortable Christianity.
He called people to discipleship.
The cross represents surrender.
It represents dying to self so Christ can live through us.
This is one reason the baptism and work of the Holy Spirit is so important. We cannot consistently deny ourselves through human effort alone. We need supernatural strength.
The Spirit helps us overcome temptation, grow in holiness, and walk in obedience.
True discipleship is not about attending church once a week.
It is about following Jesus every day.
It is choosing His will over ours.
His Kingdom over our comfort.
His purpose over our preferences.
Commitment begins where self ends.
Every day we have a choice:
Will we carry our cross, or will we carry our own agenda?
Reflection
Prayer
Father,
Today I surrender again. I lay down my plans, my pride, my fears, and my desires before You.
Jesus, teach me to carry my cross daily. Holy Spirit, give me strength to walk in obedience and faithfulness. Let my life reflect true discipleship and wholehearted surrender.
I want to follow You completely.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Activation
Pray Matthew 16:24 every morning this week before starting your day.
Declaration
I deny myself.
I take up my cross.
I follow Jesus.
I am not pursuing comfort.
I am pursuing Christ.
The Holy Spirit is empowering me to live a life of commitment.
